ABOUT

This web site was developed by Prof. Dr. Ömer Lütfi Şen within the framework of the Mercator-IPC Fellowship Program. The site aims to explain, particularly to high school students and teachers, the phenomenon of climate change and illustrate its implications for Turkey. It can be utilized as educational material or simply as a starting point for further discussion in class.

The content and graphics of this homepage have been generated by Dr. Şen and are based on the findings of his research as a 2012-2013 Mercator-IPC Fellow. In his project A holistic view of climate change impact in Turkey, he reviewed the existing literature on the impact of climate change in Turkey and collected additional data from various sectors. This website clearly and coherently displays the findings of Şen’s study, making it suitable for readers without any previous knowledge or expertise in the field. For more in-depth information on his research please visit the DATA SECTION.

The Mercator-IPC Fellowship Program is the cornerstone of the Istanbul Policy Center-Sabanci University-Stiftung Mercator Initiative. The program aims to strengthen the academic, political, and social ties between Turkey and Germany, as well as Turkey and Europe, by facilitating outstanding scientific research and hands-on policy work. The initiative is based on the belief that the acquisition of knowledge and an exchange of ideas and people are the preconditions for meeting the challenges of an increasingly globalized world in the 21st century.
